National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is our nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school scholars.  More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

Chapter membership not only recognizes scholars for their academic accomplishments, but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service projects.  Each year, National Honor Society chapters throughout the country collectively dedicate countless hours to school and community service projects as well as fundraisers for local, national, and international charities. Instilling these values early in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of community service.

The John Adams Academy chapter, advised by Mrs. D’Amour, collectively puts in over 400 hours per semester serving our school and community.  Many of these service projects are organized by our NHS committees, and others we just volunteer to serve at.  Some local, national and international charities we have supported through volunteerism and donations include: Operation Christmas Child, Days For Girls, The Giving Tree, Feed My Starving Children, several local homeless shelters, local retirement centers, local church groups, local mental health organizations, local mother’s support groups and the Sierra Pregnancy Center.  In addition to serving our broader community, NHS members volunteer to serve at many John Adams Academy sponsored events, including the annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly, The Fall Festival, Reading Programs for our Elementary Campus, Staff vs. Scholars Volleyball and Basketball Games, helping plan and  prepare for various school dances and serving at our annual Revolution Run Fundraiser.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of our chapter of the National Honor Society must maintain a 3.75 or higher non-weighted academic grade point average and demonstrate to our Faculty Admissions Committee their commitment to academic excellence, leadership, character and service.
