Marla Tawlks: TK/ Kinder Teacher Online

 

This will be my 9th year teaching at JAA.  I started my career at our Roseville Campus.  At Roseville, I taught 1st grade for one year.  All my other years were spent in my favorite grade... KINDERGARTEN! This year I will continue teaching Kindergarten, but I will also teach Transitional Kindergarten! 

 

I love the JAA community! My girls have both attended JAA, and that was the reason I originally applied.  I wanted to work at the school I chose for my family!

 

I am excited to work for the online program to offer yet another option for 'school of choice'. I am excited to meet the needs of the online families and show them how wonderful JAA is!

 

Two classic stories have inspired my teaching career:

 

The first one is The Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood.  This was the first book I learned how to read when I was in kindergarten.  It has always been my favorite story because it was the story that catapulted me into the world of reading!

 

The second book is Matilda by Ronald Dahl. I read this book when I was in 4th grade.  I ADORED my 4th grade teacher.  Her name was Mrs. Davis.  It was clear that Mrs. Davis loved teaching and loved her students.  When I read Matilda, I was moved by how much Miss Honey cared for her scholars.  From that moment on I knew that I too wanted to care for scholars, and I knew I would be a teacher.
