About Me
Dr. Andrew D. Carico serves as Headmaster at John Adams Academy in El Dorado Hills. Dr. Carico has a deep love for classical education and its role in transforming individual lives and perpetuating American liberty. He desires to fulfill the John Adams Academy mission because he believes, as James Madison wrote, that “a well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.”
He comes to the Academy from William Jessup University, where he served as Associate Professor and held administrative roles as Chair for both the Public Policy Department and the Division of Humanities. He earned his Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in political science, with an emphasis in political philosophy, American politics, and constitutional law. He has been published in multiple print and online publications, and he also enjoys speaking publicly on matters related to American politics and education.
In his own words, Dr. Carico stated that “John Adams Academy provides the kind of education that America desperately needs. By introducing scholars to the great books and initiating them into the great conversations, John Adams Academy can help those same scholars identify greatness within themselves. Such an education will also, I believe, prove beneficial to our great country. It is an honor to be a part of such important work.” Dr. Carico’s wife, Allie, is also an administrator at a private PreK-12 school in the Sacramento region, and they have two young children. As a family, they love to read the classic works of C.S. Lewis.
