In accordance to state and federal law, John Adams Academy participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP). The state of California requires all public schools to participate in the Universal Meal Program where all children are provided meals, free of charge, regardless of family income and we are pleased to do so.
Many families have expressed a desire to donate the cost of their scholars’ meals to the academy. It is estimated that each lunch meal costs $4.52 and each breakfast meal costs $2.37. If you would like to pay the cost of your scholar’s meal to the academy by way of donation, you can do so via a donation through our website. (Select your campus, and click the SCHOOL MEAL PROGRAM button.) These donations go a long way to supporting the academy.
Although school meals are free to all scholars in California, regardless of income, our Academy's school funding is still tied to the percentage of scholars who qualify for the free and reduced meal program based on completed meal applications. Please complete a meal application today. Thank you.
For children, the National School Lunch Program provides a nutritious meal that contains one-third of the recommended dietary allowance of necessary nutrients. For parents, the program offers a convenient method of providing a nutritionally balanced lunch at the lowest possible price. For schools, the program enhances children's learning abilities by contributing to their physical and mental well being. Studies have shown that children whose nutritional needs are met have fewer attendance and discipline problems and are more attentive in class.
